Dr. Robert L. McKowen specializes in Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery. He is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Surgery at the University of Texas Medical School in Houston.
He received his Medical Degree from the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond, Virginia, and did his Internship in General Surgery at Bellevue Hospital, New York University. Dr. McKowen completed his General Surgery Residency at the Medical College of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia and his Cardiovascular Surgery Residency in Pittsburgh at Allegheny General Hospital. He then did Fellowships in Pediatric Heart Surgery at Boston Children's Hospital and Denver Children's Hospital before coming to Houston in 1986.
